Go-ahead for modernization and expansion of the Mitterdorf ski center

Skizentrum Mitterdorf

The Skizentrum Mitterdorf in the district of Freyung-Grafenau is one of the largest ski resorts in the Bavarian Forest. On Monday, March 28, 2022, it took a big step towards a successful future. The district council of Freyung-Grafenau approved the modernization plans with a broad majority. This paves the way for the planning approval and licensing procedures, which are to be completed this year.

Investments of 20 million euros are planned for the replacement of the Almberg chairlift with a detachable six-seater chairlift and the replacement of the Kleine Almberglift with a fixed-grip four-seater chairlift, as well as the addition of summer attractions, including a canopy tour and the longest flyline in Germany. The construction work is scheduled to be carried out in 2023.

Already in 2019/20, Montenius Consult together with the renowned engineering firm Klenkhart & Partner ZT Consulting from Absam/Tyrol prepared a master plan for a sustainable development of the ski center with year-round operation. Finally, Montenius Consult supported the project with economic feasibility calculations, which served as the basis for the decisions in the committees.

Already at the end of 2021, the government of Lower Bavaria decided to support the project with 5.76 million euros.
